Welcome to DoIT's IT Academy
The UW-Madison Information Technology Academy (ITA) is an innovative pre-college program that provides four years of technology access and training for diverse students attending Madison public schools.
In alignment with the UW-Madison’s Inclusive Excellence diversity initiative, the Information Technology Academy provides services to diverse students with the ultimate goal of increasing their enrollment, retention, and graduation rates at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Through its triple focus on academic preparation, leadership development, and technological literacy, ITA prepares promising students for learning and leadership in the 21st century digital age.
Each year, ITA competitively recruits 30 students in their final semester of 8th grade. Selected students receive four years of intensive training for high-tech, IT-related careers and thorough preparation for competitive university admissions and study. Students of ITA build knowledge and skills through hands-on training, mentoring, leadership development, community service, and internship opportunities. At the same time, the students’ communities benefit from greater access to technology and from the skills and experience gained by these future leaders.
The ITA Tribal Technology Institute (TTI) is a 3-year pre-college technology access and training program for American Indian high school students in Wisconsin. In a similar fashion to ITA, TTI will help students develop the knowledge and skills required to increase their own capacities as future scholars, community leaders, and workforce professionals.
ITA is the only IT outreach program of its kind and scope in the state of Wisconsin.
