The Information Technology Academy (ITA) is currently seeking a wide variety of internship placements for its students during the summer of 2011. These placements can be paid (180 hour minimum) or unpaid (80 hour minimum) placements, either on or off campus. If your company, state agency, or UW department would be interested in hiring an ITA intern, please read through the information below and submit the Position Description form as soon as possible.
About the Students: All participating students are in high school - entering 12th grade. Most will be 17 years of age. Students are from the Madison area, and will have had 3 years of technology training in a variety of areas, including:
- Microsoft Word & Powerpoint
- Graphic design (Photoshop, Illustrator)
- Web page design & development (Dreamweaver & HTML)
- Animation (Flash)
- Digital video editing (Vegas Video)
- Digital audio editing (ACID Music)
- Hardware maintenance
Other aspects of their preparation/training have included project management, time management, and maintaining electronic portfolios. Their range of interests and expertise is broad, and they will be seeking project-based placements which will allow them to use their skills in a practical setting.
2011 Program Dates: Flexible between June 13 and August 12, according to employer/employee needs.
Salary: To be determined by employer; minimum $1,000
Work Hours: Flexible, according to employer/employee needs.
Selection Process & Timeline: Position descriptions should be submitted to the ITA office as soon as possible. Interns will present their resumes and electronic portfolios to employers for review during Spring 2011. Final placements should be made by the end of April, and learning contracts will be signed shortly thereafter. The actual internship will take place between June 13 and August 12.
