ITA Short-Term Internship Program

The Information Technology Academy (ITA) is currently seeking a wide variety of on-campus internship placements for its students during the summer of 2008. If your department would be interested in hosting a student this year, please read through the information below and submit the Position Description form no later than March 31, 2006.

2008 Program Dates:
3-week internship: June 16-July 8 or August 4-15

Cost to Department: Interns are paid $500 stipends by the ITA program, which includes payment for a week-long training before the internship begins. We are asking participating departments to help cover costs by contributing $300 to ITA, when feasible. However, financial assistance is available to individuals and campus departments unable to pay -- so please submit your materials anyway! Please also note that the host department/individual will be responsible for providing a work station for the student to use during the internship. (A very limited number of ITA laptops may be available to borrow.)

About the Students: All participating students are in high school - entering 11th or 12th grade. These students are from the Madison area, and will have had two to three years of formal technology training, including:

  • Graphic design (Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Web page design & development (Dreamweaver & HTML)
  • Animation (Flash)
  • Digital video editing (Vegas Video)
  • Digital audio editing (ACID Music)
  • Hardware maintenance

Over the summer, the juniors will complete additional training in computer service fundamentals as part of their internship. Their range of interests are broad, and they will be looking for placements which allow them to use their skills in a practical setting.

Host Orientation Meeting & First-Day Pickup: If this is your first time hosting an ITA student intern, a member of the ITA staff will schedule a brief meeting with you to orient you to the program.

At 8:45 a.m. on the first day of the internship, we ask that you meet your student intern at Union South and escort him/her to the job site. This is critical, as your intern will be learning how to get to the job site independently after the first day.

If you are interested in hosting an ITA intern, please contact Michelle McKiernan at 890-1560 or by email at mckiernan@doit.wisc.edu.
